For a monthly fee, Spectrum will provide a pre-configured WiFi router.
Customers may also choose to use or purchase their own router.
However, only Spectrum-provided equipment is supported by our technicians.
What router can I use with Spectrum?
The NETGEAR AC1600 WiFi DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Router provides the fastest cable speed available with an AC1600 WiFi router and integrated DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, with up to 680 Mbps. It’s compatible with cable internet provider Comcast XFINITY, Spectrum, Cox, Cablevision, and more.
Can I use any router for my internet?
The router your ISP provides may not have the latest technologies like 802.11ac and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, so you may be better off buying your own router anyway. You can use any wireless router you want, but the modem you purchase has to be approved by your ISP to function with their network.
How do I add a spectrum to my router?
To connect a router to your computer with a wireless connection:
- Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your modem.
- Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Internet, Uplink, WAN or WLAN port on your router.
- Plug in your router.
- Shut down your computer.
- Connect an Ethernet cable to your computer.
